Fabulous Pair of Italian Chiavari 'Parisienne' Chairs. Circa. 1953
A fabulous pair of mid-century chairs.
These chairs, 'The Parisienne' were made around 1953 in Italy.
Attributable to the designer Fratelli Levaggi/Guiseppe Gaetano Descalzi of Italy, although there is no makers mark visible.
These chairs are a wonder of design, engineering and sophistication; combining lightness and sturdiness in an incredibly elegant form.
The chairs are made of solid beech with carved hand turned elements.
The original seats are of woven cane.
Each chair has aged uniquely, offering a magical contrast in time and use developed patina.
An absolutely stunning pair of functional art forms.
Approx. max. dims: H: 950mm, W: 430mm, D:420mm, SH: 460mm
In excellent vintage condition. Both structurally solid and robust. The odd mark or bump to the frames as one might expect. The cane seat to the darker chair is excellent, whilst to the lighter chair the cane work has started to come away to the left hand side and slightly to the front as you look at. It's not pulled away entirely but could do with a little attention. Totally useable as is although I would recommend a cushion or similar. If used for display purposes, it's barely noticeable as shown in the photos.
These are original antiques and may well show signs of use and wear commensurate with age.
Please do study the photos and video as these form part of the description.
